LOCATIONS WE SERVEYou might wonder why Hit A Few Golf focuses only on locations in Arizona, Nevada, and Southern California, whereas most of our competitors claim to be nationwide providers. The answer is transportation costs. The equipment for a single simulator weighs around 1000 pounds, so we have to transport it in a trailer. The maximum distance we can realistically haul our trailer from our home base in Las Vegas, in one day, is about 400 miles at the most. So, to travel to an event 400 miles away and return requires two travel days plus transportation costs of about $400. This has to be added to the normal fee we charge for events in our home base of Las Vegas. As you can see, the transportation costs for greater distances would compound very quickly. So, it is easy to see why the Nation-wide providers based in the Midwest or on the East Coast are not really nation-wide at all for events in Las Vegas or Phoenix when it comes to cost. For the same reasons, we don’t feel we can be cost-competitive at distances greater than a one-day drive from Las Vegas, That is why we focus on the large metropolitan centers within a 400-mile radius of Las Vegas like Phoenix and Los Angeles (and of course Las Vegas itself). Why Phoenix? You may wonder why we focus so heavily on the Phoenix area. Phoenix is especially important to Hit A Few Golf because it is a world-famous golf destination with many large resorts, and of course the Phoenix Convention Center, that host frequent conventions and corporate events. Plus, hauling a golf simulator to Phoenix from Las Vegas is an easy drive (less than 300 miles). In fact Las Vegas is the closest large city to the Phoenix / Scottsdale area – much closer than either Los Angeles or San Diego |
SPACE REQUIREMENTS“Our simulators have a footprint of 15′ x 20′ and stand 10′ high. If you look at a variety of different golf simulators, you will notice that almost all full-size units measure at least 15 ft wide x 20 ft deep x 10 ft high (a few are even larger). This is no accident. In order to swing a driver freely, the average golfer needs at least 7 feet clearance in every direction – in back and on both sides to avoid hitting something with his club. This means that a simulator that allows both right-handed and left-handed players would need an internal width of at least 14 feet. The 20 foot depth places the projector at the necessary distance to display a life-size image of the fairway on the screen, and it keeps the player’s swing entirely inside the protective enclosure. There are, however, a few golf simulators on the market that try to cut costs by using a smaller enclosure that is sometimes as small as 10 ft wide x 9 ft high x only a few feet deep and just big enough to catch the ball (if the player hits it straight). However, in these smaller simulators, the player must stand, and swing his club, outside the protection of the simulator enclosure. This can be a serious safety issue if there are spectators present. They could be hit by the club itself or by a stray ball hit off the toe or heel of the club. These smaller golf simulators might be okay for home use, but they can be very risky in a rental environment. |
